Two leash-free areas proposed for Guyra are now on public exhibition for community feedback.
At the Ordinary Council Meeting held in October council endorsed the two preferred sites on Balblair Street and Sandon Street in Guyra for the establishment of leash-free areas. Guyra currently has no formalised leash-free areas and the proposed sites were chosen for their easy access to the water network and would only require the construction of a trough system, secure fencing and the installation of park benches and tables for dog owners to interact and socialise. Dog waste bags and bins would also be installed.
Armidale Regional Council Mayor Sam Coupland said according to council records over 60 percent of Guyra households have at least one dog.
“Armidale already has a successful and well used network of leash-free areas and the expansion of these designated open spaces for dog owners and their beloved companions to enjoy in Guyra is needed.
“The leash-free areas provide a safe place for dog owners to exercise their animals and socialise with like-minded people without the worry and the constraints of a lead.”
Council is asking for community feedback on the proposed locations of the leash free areas in Guyra and can be viewed via council’s online engagement hub at Your say Armidale or in person at the Guyra Civic Administration Building on Bradley Street until Friday 25 November 2022.
