Council has implemented a Bridge Renewal Strategy that since 2017 has been progressively replacing aged timber bridges throughout the Armidale region with new concrete structures. With 31 structures originally identified under the program, we have completed 13 construction upgrades with 18 timber bridge structures remaining.
Of the 18 remaining timber structures we currently have three major bridges shown below that are due for final completion in July 2024. Two of these bridges, the Laura Creek Bridge and the Boorolong Creek Bridge have been recently opened to traffic with the Bakers Creek Bridge to follow.
To date, the program has been funded through the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program, the NSW Government’s Stronger Regions Fund and the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Bridges Program.
