Bridge Renewal Program

Update - Lambs Valley Bridge - Lyndhurst Rd

Council is undertaking construction work to replace Lambs Valley Bridge on Lyndhurst Road between the 8 August 2022 and 19 September 2022, weather permitting.

The old timber bridge has shown signs of deterioration that is beyound reasonable repair. The existing bridge will be replaced with a concrete culvert at a cost of $309K and has been funded through the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Bridges program.

  • For the safety of road users, pedestrians and onsite construction personnel, traffic management signage and controls will be in place throughout the project. Alternative routes will be marked.

Bridge Renewal Program

Council has implemented a Bridge Renewal Strategy that is progressively replacing or renewing aged timber bridges throughout the Armidale region, with 32 structures identified for the program.

To date, the program has been funded through the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program, the NSW Government’s Stronger Regions Fund and the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Bridges Program.

1st Culvert - Herbert Park Road

Station Creek Bridge (site locally known as House Creek) - Wongwibinda Road

Maiden Creek Bridge – Wongwibinda Road

Hiscox Creek Bridge - Puddledock Road

Abington Creek Bridge – Boorolong Road

Boundary Creek Bridge – Rockvale Road

Wollomombi River Bridge – Rockvale Road

Shingle Hut Bridge - Castledoyle Road

Pint Pot Bridge - Rockvale Road

Dumaresq Creek Bridge - Cookes Road

Martin's Gully Bridge - Shambrook Avenue 

 

Bridges to be replaced: 

Laura Creek Bridge on Baldersleigh Rd - Detailed design phase has identified that the concrete causeways approaching the bridge require replacement in conjunction with the bridge replacement. Additional funding is being sought to cover the additional scope.

Bakers Creek Bridge on Old Hillgrove Rd - Design phase is complete. Due to the impacts of COVID-19 and the significant increase in construction cost additional funds are being sought before construction will commence. 

Boorolong Creek Bridge on Boorolong Rd - Design phase is complete. Due to the impacts of COVID-19 and the significant increase in construction cost additional funds are being sought before construction will commence.

Council has recently applied for funding for replacement of a further 10 timber bridges under Round 2 of the Fixing County Bridges Program. Notification regarding the outcome of the applications are anticipate in the coming months.
