Hats off to ARC staff
His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley called last week offering his support and best wishes to Armidale residents in regards to the natural disaster events.
Mayor Tiley and Armidale Regional Councillors also send their gratitude and appreciation to all emergency responders, businesses, volunteers and the general public who assisted in the emergency response and the ongoing recovery.
Honouring Kathleen Anne Partridge OAM
The late Kathleen Anne Partridge OAM will have her gold Olympic medals securely displayed in Council’s foyer, following the wishes of Kath and her family that her medals be loaned for display to Armidale Regional Council.
Support for the Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place
Council will seek to fund $39,600 to the Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place in its second quarter review. Council will also establish an MOU and prioritise a disability footpath on Council’s list of works.
Destination Armidale
Council adopted the Armidale Region Tourism Strategy following its public exhibition period. Ten submissions were received during the 28 day public exhibition period.
Paying their share
Now is your chance to share your views on the Community Engagement and Benefit Sharing for Renewable Energy Projects Policy. Following Council’s adoption of the ARC REZ Policy, the Community Engagement and Benefit Sharing Policy represents the second part of a proposed set of related policies which will enable Council to respond proactively to the NE-REZ.
YMCA to partner with ARC
Council will enter into a non-binding MOU with YMCA to explore strategic opportunities to grow aquatic centres across the region.
Partnering with the not-for-profit organisation aims to review the operations of the aquatic centres and increase efficiencies to reduce the burden on the community, with a long-term vision to integrate a hydrotherapy pool into the facility as part of a broader wellness precinct.
Pony Club to self-help
Guyra Showground is set to receive a makeover with a new toilet and shower facility to be established in the grounds. Armidale Regional Council will provide $319,710.60 to the Guyra and District Pony Club Incorporated, to construct the facilities following a public exhibition period of 28 days and no matters arising.
Road classifications under review
Council has submitted proposals to transfer Guyra Road, from a Regional Road to State Road, and Wards Mistake Road, from a Local Road to Regional Road, in the Road Classification Review and Transfer program. The recommendation to make the reclassification submissions is to relieve existing and ongoing maintenance costs associated with these roads.
ARC engages local JNC Group
Local construction group, JNC Group have been successful in their tender submission to construct six culvert structures and corn patch culvert restoration works along Kempsey Road, totalling approximately $5 million.
Tillbuster Solar Farm to contribute
Council has accepted a $1.5 million contribution to a Community Benefit Fund from the developers of Tillbuster Solar Farm. The Fund will be overseen by a s355 Committee of Council and community consultation will be conducted to determine the best use of the contribution.
