James Glass died in Armidale on Sunday 2 July 1933, aged 80 years. Born in Armidale, the son of the late Mr and Mrs Andrew Glass, he followed the occupation of a conveyancer for many years but retired about ten years earlier tolive with his neice in Armidale. He was a former alderman for twenty five years and shared the position of mayor of Armidale with Walter D. Solomons in 1912. For forty years he was secretary of the Armidale and New England Hospital and retired from that position only a few years prior to his death. He held the position of trustee and auditor of the Ladies Relief Society for forty six years. He was secretary of the Armidale School of Arts for over twenty years and for half a century held the position of secretary and treasurer of the Sons of Temperance. His association as treasurer of the St. Paul's Presbyterian Church extended over along time and he resigned only a few months prior to his death as secretary of the Armidale cemetery trust.

After a short service at his residence, he was buried in the Presbyterian portion of the Armidale cemetery on Monday 3 July 1933. In November 1949, Mayor L.E.Dawson proposed that the name of James A. Glass be added to council's roll of benefactors.
