Mayor 1943 - 1944, 1949 - 1950

Born in Armidale in 1889, he moved to Hillgrove with his parents as an infant and was there for the first twenty years of his life. He became a blacksmith at Hillgrove with his father and then moved to Bellingen, Guyra and Walcha.

At Guyra, he conducted the brass band and later moved to Walcha as the bandmaster. He entered the service of the Railway Department in 1916 as a cleaner and rose to the position of a driver. In July 1949 he retired after 33 years of service.

He entered council in December 1928 and was mayor for four terms: 1943, 1944,1949 and 1950. He was an advocate of council ownership of electricity in 1936 and in 1944 was appointed to the Local Government Executive but was forced to resign because of ill-health in 1945. He served on a Number 8 Regional Development Advisory Committee from 1945 until December 1949.

He was a member of the Country Party and was involved in the Chamber of Commerce, Bowling Club and Police Boy's Club. He was instrumental in the formation of the Armidale Orchestral Society in 1943. He was farewelled from Armidale in August 1951 and the Armidale Express 29 August announced that he had taken up residence in Marboura. This edition also announced that he was to receive a Local Government Certificate of Service.
