Alleine Horner Fletcher died at his Armidale residence on 15 June 1957. Born in Armidale, he attended school in Sydney and served with the 33rd Batallion of the A.I.F. in World War One. He held a commissioned rank and at the end of the war he studied optometry and returned to Armidale to join his father's firm. Elected to the Armidale City Council in 1923, he served four terms in council. Aged 33 years, he was elected to the position of mayor and was mayor at the time of the opening of the Teacher's College in 1928.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Armidale and New England Hospital for many years and was honorary treasurer at the time of his death. He was also chairman of the Ambulance for a number of years. He was foundation member and office member of the Armidale Rotary Club and was a director of the Armidale Co-operative Building Societies. During World War Two, he joined the Volunteer Defence Corps and became Lieutenant- Colonel in charge of the district. For more than forty years, he was treasurer of the Wesley Church Trust and was a leading figure in the establishment of the Methodist Girls' Hostel.

He was twice married. His first wife formerly Miss Edna Marjorie Brown of Auburn, died in September 1927. She left two young children and was buried in the Armidale Methodist cemetery. Later he married Miss Florence M. Glass from a grazing family of Gara. He left a widow and four sons. Following a funeral service in the Wesley Church, he was buried in the Armidale cemetery.
