Major Projects Assessment – Armidale Landfill Project
Construction and operation of a regional putrescible waste landfill facility off Waterfall Way, approximately 12km east of Armidale.
Controlled Action under EPBC Act
The Commonwealth Department of Environment and Water Resources determined that the proposed development is a "controlled action" under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The EPBC Act Part 3, Division 1 controlling provisions are:
- sections 12 and 15A (World Heritage properties)
- sections 15B and 15C (National Heritage places)
The project was assessed under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. The assessment was in accordance with clause 13.2 of the Bilateral Agreement between NSW and the Commonwealth, made under the EPBC Act, relating to environmental impact assessment. The assessment was done in the manner specified in Schedule 1 of the Bilateral Agreement.
