Council celebrates new Regional NSW office announcement

A NSW Government decision to establish a new Department of Regional NSW office in Armidale has been welcomed by Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Susan Law, as another very welcome boost to the region.

Ms Law said the new office, announced today by Deputy Premier John Barilaro, was incredible news for the region and would bring a fantastic injection of jobs and economic stimulus.

Armidale is one of four region centres chosen for Department of Regional NSW offices, creating approximately 100 jobs in the region.

“The Government’s decision to locate an office here shows wonderful confidence in our region,” Ms Law said.

“It will be another highly valuable measure to further invigorate our region, in combination with other economic stimulus initiatives by Council and the business community.

“We have already seen the benefits from the relocation of other industries to Armidale and we’re excited to see a similar outcome from hosting the Department of Regional NSW office,” she said.

“We look forward to working with the NSW Government and the Member for Northern Tablelands, Adam Marshall, to get this underway as soon as possible.”

She said this announcement - along with Council measures such as the Armidale Regional Airport Business Park being developed, a new Business Hub and business stimulus measures in the draft 2020/21 Budget - would be particularly valuable as the local economic sought to regain momentum after COVID-19 and the drought.
