The Guyra Preschool and Long Day Care Centre is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people accessing our services. We support the rights of the child and will strive to deliver a child safe environment at all times. We also support the rights and wellbeing of our staff, carers, and volunteers and encourage their participation in building and maintaining a secure environment for children.
All persons involved with the Guyra Preschool and Long Day Care agree to maintain the following core principles as a minimum standard:
- Abide by the Policies and Practices of the Guyra Preschool and Long Day Care Centre.
- Have read, acknowledged and adhered to the Child Protection Policy, Accept Duty of Care for the welfare, safety, health and happiness of the children in our care
- Agree that any type of harm, defined as 'any detrimental effect of a significant nature on the child's physical, psychological or emotional well being' is unacceptable conduct irrespective of how the harm occurs.
- Understand and adhere to Mandatory reporting guidelines.
- Always act in the best interest of children and respect and commit to advocating the rights of children and the acts enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the child (1998)
- Treat children as active citizens in their communities.
- Create and maintain safe, healthy environments, spaces and places which enhance children’s learning, development, engaging, initiative, self worth, dignity and show respect for their contributions.
- Treat all people with respect, ensuring people are not discriminated against on the basis of gender, age, ability, economic status, family structure, lifestyle, ethnicity, religion, language, culture or national origin, encompassing equity of all. Work to ensure children and families with additional needs can exercise their rights and have equal opportunities.
- Acknowledge the uniqueness found in each individual, acknowledging the holistic nature of children’s learning
- Respect each child's right to privacy, honour children’s right to play and rest.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with families to support them in their role of nurturing children. Welcome families so they feel a sense of inclusion and belonging in the service and encourage families to be part of decision making
- Maintain the confidentiality of any information which is provided about children or their families.
- Build collaborative and sharing relationships with educators supporting each others personal strengths, professional experience and diversity which other colleagues bring to work.
- Collaborate with educators and colleagues to generate a culture of continual reflection and renewal of high quality practises in early childhood.
- Undertake all aspects of the National Quality Framework “Being, Belonging, Becoming” and “My Time Our Place”. Undertake programming, curriculum and documentation of childrens, learning, development and play, sharring this with families.
- Linking programming to EYLF outcomes, evaluating and scaffolding children interest and play.
- Engage in local community events to promote the service and connect with local community members to support and enhance the welfare and wellbeing of children.
- Advocate for the development and implementation of laws and policies that promote child friendly communities. Work to promote community understanding of how children learn and develop.
- Promote and uphold the goals of the Guyra Preschool and Long Day Care Centre in the care environment and in the community.
- Encourage colleagues to adopt and act in accordance with this code of ethics ad take action in the presence of unethical behaviours.
- In relation to students, educators will be welcoming, supportive, assist when necessary, encourage their personal strengths and abilities, model high quality professional services provide constructive feedback that is fair and equitable and provide mentoring so the student can achieve their full potential.
- Educators are required to adhere to council policies, regulations and professionalism.
- Educators are expected to up date their knowledge of the child care field when changes occur to regulations, law, NQS, NQF, EYLF and MTOP. The early childcare field is ever changing and educators need to keep themselves informed and their knowledge up to date.
