Council is building a new Guyra Early Childhood Learning Centre, and before and after school care facility, behind our Civic Administration Building in Guyra.
The purpose-built facility will further enhance Guyra Preschool and Long Day Care Centre’s services to the community, by providing a fit-for-purpose, modern and safe building and playground.
Planning and community consultation is underway for the project, which will increase the centre’s capacity to 58 long day care and preschool places and 30 before and after school care and vacation care places. The added capacity will increase the number of families that can benefit from the service and boost the service’s financial viability.
The project is funded by $613,000 from the Federal Government and a $900,000 contribution by Council. Council is seeking additional grant support.”
The new location in the heart of Guyra will help activate the town's central business district and improve the Early Childhood Learning Centre’s connectivity with other resources and reinforce a cultural and community nucleus in Bradley Street, including the Guyra Library and The Hub.
Council is liaising with two community organisations currently located at the new Early Childhood Learning Centre site - the Guyra Men’s Shed and Healthy Highlanders - to identify alternative facilities for the groups.
Council plans to relocate the UNE Study Hub.
Council is also consulting with adjacent residents, business operators and service providers and has begun broader community engagement.
A community survey was conducted on the facility designs and closed on 30 August 2020.
Council is committed to quality care and early childhood education. A strong start at preschool will improve educational and welfare outcomes for our future generations. The new Learning Centre will be a fitting environment for our skilled staff to prepare children for their primary school experience.
