The Armidale Creeklands runs through Curtis and Civic Park, extending further through town along the bike track.
In response to recommendations in a coroners report on the drowning death of a child in the creek lands in 2016, Armidale Regional Council is taking immediate action to control reeds in Dumaresq Creek in accordance with Environmental Protection Authority approval.
Works will begin Monday 16 April, in conjunction with the New England Weeds Authority, and will include the strictly targeted use of herbicide registered for use in aquatic environments.
The reduction and ongoing management of reeds in the parks’ waterway is one of the measures Council is taking to enhance public safety by improving visual surveillance of the creek and adjoining parkland.
Works in April will be complemented by follow-up control measures during the following six months.
