James E. Salmon

Mayor 1876

James Salmon died at his home in Brown Street, Armidale on Thursday 4 February 1897. His wife Amelia Salmon, nee Taylor died on 31 May 1877, aged 43 years.

For many years he was a partner in the firm of J. Richardson and Company, during which time he was also mayor. Failing health caused by rheumatism, forced him to retire from his public functions in Armidale. Because he was a life member of the old Armidale Masonic Lodge under the English Constitution, the members of Lodge Unity met under special dispensation granted by the N.S.W.Grand Lodge to accord his remains the rite of Masonic burial. He was buried on Friday 5 February 1897 in the Church of England section, Armidale following a service in St. Peter's Cathedral.

Unfortunately a photograph of James E. Salmon was unable to be located.
