Mayor 1900 - 1901, 1905

Aged 42, he died in Armidale on Wednesday 29 April 1914 at his residence 'Ellora' after a brief illness. As a solicitor, he commenced his practice in Armidale twenty one years previous. He was born in Armidale in 1872, the fourth son of Henry and Anne Claverie and recieved his education at the local Catholic school. He served his articles with A.W. Simpson in Armidale. When elected to the position of mayor in 1900, he was only 28 years of age. In politics, he was an ardent Protectionist and for many years served his party as secretary. He was a sportsman; a Vice President and chairman of the committee in the Armidale New England Jockey Club; a committee member of the Armidale Coursing Club; a prominent member of the Irish National Association as well as being a practicing member of the Roman Catholic Church.

He was twice married; his first wife being Lucy McKinlay, daughter of William McKinlay of Armidale and Annie Stevens, daughter of Mr A. Stevens of Uralla, his second. His wife Annie and a twelve year old daughter from his first marriage, survived him.

He was buried in the Armidale cemetery on Friday 1 May 1914 following Requiem Mass in the St. Mary's Cathedral. His legal business was purchased in May 1914 by Mr C.L. Mackenzie of Mackenzie and Mackenzie, Sydney and continued its operation in Armidale as Mackenzie and Biddulph.
