He died, aged 84 years in Scotland in August 1926. Born near Armagh, Ireland he came as a young man to join his brothers on the grazing and farming property 'Ullathorne' near Warwick, Queensland. Following a marriage to a daughter of Thomas George McBride, a distinguished engineer of Belfast the moved to Armidale in 1868 to join his uncle, John Moore in business. Some years later he became council clerk to the Armidale municipality, a position he held for some eighteen years, resigning eventually to seek election as alderman. Following his election to council in 1890, he was elected mayor that year.

Apart from his civic duties, he was also associated with the P. and A. Society, the New England Jockey Club, Irish National Association, the Armidale and New England Hospital and other community institution. He took a special interest in the New England Building and Investment Society for some forty years. He took a keen interest in politics and was an ardent Protectionist and he succeeded the late Hon Harry Copeland. He sat as a member of Parliament for New England for a number of years.

He established a successful auctioneer and financial agent business and made many visits to England, America and other countries.

He was survived by two married daughters, Mrs Reg Routh and Mrs Sterling Craig both living in England and two sons, Stanley C. Wilson and Dr T.G. Wilson of Armidale. His wife predeceased him by ten years and Mr Wilson was buried beside her at the cemetery at Kilgoaquhar, Firth of Forth, Scotland.
