Back-flow Prevention

Backflow and Cross Connection Prevention

Backflow prevention devices and Thermostatic mixing valves are required to be installed in accordance with the Plumbing Code of Australia and the AS 3500 parts 1 & 4.

Where these devices are installed, the installer is responsible for the initial commissioning and certification of the valve. The installer is also responsible for notifying the local regulator (Council) of the location of the valve. After that, it is the building owner’s responsibility to ensure the valve is tested to meet safety standards on an annual basis. Council has created a register to help business owners, designers and consultants have easy access to appropriately qualified contractors licensed in the testing and certification of these devices. This will also help council monitor the required annual testing.
