New England Regional Companion Animal Shelter

The Armidale Companion Animal Shelter cares for animals that are in need of a safe and loving home, whether they have been found lost, surrendered or abandoned. They often have both cats and dogs that are looking to be adopted by a loving new family.

Lost or Found a Dog or Cat?

If you have lost your pet or found someone else’s contact Council at 1300 136 833 or lodge an online request here.

Incoming Animals

Dogs and Cats brought to the shelter are held for a statutory holding period of 7 days if unidentified and 14 days if they have either a microchip or tag.

Once the holding period has elapsed, the animal ownership is automatically transferred to the Animal Shelter under the authority of the Companion Animals Act. The shelter then has the responsibility to rehome it wherever possible.

To see the animals currently held visit the facebook page here.

If you are the owner of one of these animals, you need to contact the shelter on 6770 3994 to arrange for it's release to you urgently.

Volunteer Program

The Armidale Companion Animal Shelter has an active volunteer program. The volunteers assist with the welfare of the animals being held by providing enrichment, social interaction, training and grooming as well as other activities to help make the shelter a great place to come for those considering adopting a new pet into the family. Volunteers who are in a position to provide the Shelter with assistance are provided with an induction to the Companion Animal Shelter and training to assist in areas such as, animal grooming, animal training, exercising the animals, grounds maintenance and general assistance.
