Armidale’s Queen’s Baton Relay Experience – What you need to know!

Armidale region residents can start planning for their Queens Baton Relay experience as it passes through Armidale on February 1, 2018 on its way to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony on 4 April 2018. Come and join in on the celebrations by lining the streets of Armidale to cheer on our local heroes who have been given the wonderful honour of being a Batonbearer on the Armidale leg.

Our Baton Bearers

20 Batonbearers selected from the region have been given the honour to take part in the Baton Relay on its Armidale leg.

The baton will leave Armidale City Public School at 9.41am heading north down Faulkner Street before turning right onto Rusden Street. From Rusden Street the Baton Bearer will turn north into Marsh Street and enter the Beardy Street Mall. The Mall will be a wonderful vantage point to view the relay as it will traverse the entire length from east, central and west all the way down to Beardy Street past Armidale Central, through the Markham Street intersection and then right into Butler.

The relay will then turn right onto Dumaresq Street to Curtis Park which will be the final destination of the Armidale leg at 10.28am.

There will a short 10 minute celebration at Curtis Park before the relay heads out of the city towards Ebor.

Armidale Regional Council Mayor Simon Murray said the Queen's Baton Relay was a chance to share in our civic pride, celebrate our local Batonbearers and share in the excitement of the Commonwealth Games!
